Canterbury Champs 2026
What a fantastic day of racing at the Canterbury Championships in Glentunnel.
We had over 80 riders competing across the Time Trials and Road Races in what turned out to be a beautiful day for racing.
We did have a small delay early in the morning when a vehicle became stuck in a riverbed which pushed the Time Trial start back by around 30 minutes. Once that was sorted the racing ran smoothly for the rest of the day.
The Time Trial prizegiving was held shortly after the morning races, and the road race prizegiving took place at the Coalgate Tavern later in the afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who raced, helped and supported the event.

Canterbury Champs 2025 Weekend a Smashing Success in Loburn
The Canterbury cycling community gathered in Loburn in March of 2023 for two spectacular days of racing, featuring the Time Trial on Saturday and the Road Race on Sunday. With warm temperatures and no wind, conditions were perfect for competitors to deliver their best performances.
Saturday Showdown: Time Trial at Loburn School
The Time Trial set a thrilling tone for the weekend. Young riders like Lily Miller in the U13 Girls category and Harrison Tapper in the U15 Boys dazzled the crowd with their impressive speeds of 34.2 km/h and 38.4 km/h, respectively. The highlight of the day was David Roche’s performance in the Senior Men's category, who completed the course in just 20:54, achieving a staggering speed of 43.1 km/h.
Sunday Spectacle: Road Race Around North Loburn Block
The excitement continued into Sunday with the Road Race, where cyclists across various categories engaged in strategic battles along the scenic North Loburn block. The races were tight, with numerous tactical plays and breakaways, making for a lively spectacle that captivated the audience.
Celebratory Prize-Giving at Lighthouse Brewery
The weekend culminated in a festive prize-giving ceremony at the Lighthouse Brewery, which was a standout event on its own. With standing room only, the atmosphere was electric as the community celebrated the achievements of the cyclists. The event was not just a ceremony but a vibrant gathering of enthusiasts and supporters, making it a fitting conclusion to a fantastic weekend of racing.
